Trails & Maps
The trail system for the original 415 acre Horatio Colony Nature Preserve includes the Red Diamond Trail ( marked with red diamond-shaped blazes) which is a loop trail that traverses the steepest side of West Hill. And the Ridgline Trail (marked with white rectangles) that follows the top ridge of West Hill.
The Colony Memorial Trust purchased an additional 199 contiguous acres in 2005. Consequently, the trail system was extended by the 1.5 mile Bailey Brook Trail, marked with yellow blazes. (For trail map of the complete Horatio Colony Nature Preserve trail system click on map on the left.)
The Trust joined partnership with the Monadnock Conservancy and the Chesterfield Conservation Commission to help bring to fruition the California Brook Project. Through conservation easements, the California Brook Project has protected a contiguous green-way that connects the Horatio Colony Nature Preserve to Pisgah State Forest with a 10 mile hiking trail called the Keene Connector.
